A program we are very proud of here at EPBI is our consignment re-homing program. This company is always looking for ways to serve its community. Our consignment program has been one way we have helped so many people and their pets. We acknowledge that life circumstances can change. Many times, through no fault of their owners, pet birds can find themselves homeless. Sometimes circumstances change without warning and can not be "foreseen". In moments of desperation, birds may find themselves being handed off to less-than-desirable homes with unprepared new owners.
I developed the consignment program here years ago to help people and, more importantly, birds in this situation. The program's goal is to stop the hasty rehoming of these birds and replace it with the professional support of a company that provides lifetime support and structure for these new owners, and we are so proud of how many animals and people we have helped with this program. As a result of many years of development, we have truly perfected ways to help people in times of need. This program does everything that Someone would want to have happen at a bird rescue and adds the benefit of receiving monetary reimbursement for their birds. Birds that are in this program limit our ability to bring in baby birds for us to sell. They require the same resources and support that the babies require, so we, as a for-profit company, do have to balance how many animals we take in for the program. Unlike a rescue that operates with volunteer staff and receives donations and tax breaks, this company has to pay for all of the above. The fee we charge for the consignment program allows us to help these birds and their owners, all while taking away the burden on rescues.

We have helped so many birds with this program. It's so rewarding to think that "for-profit" companies can utilize their marketing, staff, and connections to do good for their community. We have been running this program since the inception of Exotic Pet Birds Inc. The program has been referred by clients around the Country, we've even allowed birds to be shipped into us over the years, so the program has become 'a resource that anyone in the country can utilize.
Our consignment program does operate 12 months out of the year, but it does fill up from time to time. We don't accept every bird that applies to the Program because, as I've said, our resources are limited and the program does decrease income to the company as opposed to alternative birds. We can bring in, but we do try our very best to help. Further, it's important to note that we do follow the NYS leg band law, so we do reject birds for the program if they do not have a leg band or if they are wearing an open leg band.
We continue to be so proud of everything that EPBI does. I think it's important to remind you that when you support this company by driving by Big Box stores to make your purchases here, you are actually helping to support programs like this. Life can change in a heartbeat, and being a part of a community of Aviculturists that can help you if you are ever in need should be comforting to us all.
